Kürzlich war ich zu einer Firmung eingeladen, und zu diesem Anlass habe ich eine etwas klassischere Karte gebastelt als üblich, ohne niedliche Critter.
Recently, I was invited to a Catholic Confirmation (which is called "Firmung" in German not "Konfirmation", the latter expression is only used for Protestant Confirmations). I made a more traditional card for the occation, without any cute critters this time.

Da das einzige nicht-weihnachtliche christliche Stempelmotiv in meiner Sammlung ein Fisch ist, musste ich mir um das Hauptmotiv nicht lange Gedanken machen. Blau bot sich als Akzentfarbe nicht nur an, weil man den Fisch mit Wasser assoziiert, sondern auch weil die Karte für einen jungen Mann gedacht war, dessen Lieblingsfarbe Blau ist.
The only non-Christmassy image in my stamp collection is a fish, that's why it didn't take me much time to chose my focal image. I chose blue as an accent color not only because it is a perfect fit for the fish but also because it's the favorite color of the young man this card was intended for.

Das größte Problem bei dieser Karte hatte ich mit dem Grußtext. Ich habe keinen Stempel mit einem Text für Firmungen, und wollte mir für diesen Anlass auch keinen zulegen, da ich ihn viel zu selten benötige. Zuerst dachte ich daran, Buchstabenstempel oder -stanzen für den Text zu verwenden, doch die, die ich besitze, waren allesamt zu groß für meine Karte. Außerdem wollte ich beim Text gerne mit Silberfolie arbeiten, um das Grau des Hintergrundes und des Silberdrahts aufzugreifen.
The main challenge for this card was the greeting. I do not own a stamp for the occasion and, honestly, I didn't want to invest in one as I knew I wouldn't use it often. Initially, I thought I could use alphabet stamps or dies to create it but the ones I own were all to large for what I had in mind and I also wanted to work with silver foil to match the color of the background and the silver thread.

Nach längerem Überlegen habe ich daher beschlossen, den Text selbst zu lettern und auf einem Laserdrucker auszugeben, sodass er sich leicht folieren lässt (eine einfache Anleitung zum Folieren von Laserausdrucken findet ihr hier). Zum Lettern habe ich die Procreate-App auf dem iPad Pro verwendet (ganz tolle Anleitungen dazu gibt es hier). Im Grunde genommen ist das relativ leicht, allerdings muss man ein wenig Erfahrung mit der Technik haben und auch im Lettern etwas geübt sein, um so einen Schriftzug umsetzen zu können. Wer ebenso wie ich einen Grußtext zur Firmung braucht, so etwas aber nicht selbst machen kann oder mag, darf sich den von mir erstellten Schriftzug gerne hier herunterladen.
After much thinking I decited to letter the greeting myself and print it on a laser printer so that I could easily foil it (find an instruction on how to foil laser printed projects here). For lettering I used the Procreate app on an iPad Pro (find great instructions on how to do this here). Basically, this is not difficult, however, you need some experience with the technical aspects and some lettering pratice as well. Should you also need a German greeting for a Catholic Confirmation but cannot or do not want to make one for yourself you can download the lettering I used on my card here.
